Director Billie August previously won the Berlin International Film Festival 2007 Peace Film Award for Goodbye Bafana, and also wone the Cannes Festival Palm D'Or for The Best Intentions (1991) and for Pelle The Conqueror (1987). The latter film also won an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.
